Digital Archiving of Buildings Affected by Great East Japan Earthquake

The “Digital Archiving of Buildings Affected by Great East Japan Earthquake” project creates, saves, and publicizes photographic documentations of the exteriors and interiors of buildings damaged by the Great East Japan Earthquake.

We believe that allowing scientists and researchers around the globe to access these data and images will increase awareness of the damages caused by the earthquake and tsunami. Our hope is that this project will help preserve memories of the earthquake and allow records of the disaster to be passed on to future generations.

To capture the “current” state of the region, which has taken steps towards restoration, the project will also photograph and share images of facilities that continue to be used after the earthquake and those that were built after the earthquake.
